About Me

Why I write

Ever since I could remember, I had a love for stories – both reading and writing them. I can still remember the short stories I wrote in first grade. Maybe that’s where it all began… Who knew back then that I would publish a book? Definitely not me, let me tell you!

I’ve always had a creative imagination, full of various intricate stories that I’ve longed to share with others. They’ve all been inspired by my different interests and fall under so many different genres. However, I never really had the confidence to publish them or, even sometimes, finish them. That is until now.

Now, that’s not the only reason I write.

When I was 12, my grandmother, Nonna, passed away from breast cancer. She was my inspiration and biggest source of strength. It always amazed me how she continued to fight even when nothing good seemed to be on the horizon. After she passed away, I found out from my grandfather that Nonna had written a couple of children’s books, but was unable to ever publish. When I had begun to write my first book, not two years later, the one thing that kept me writing was a secret promise I made to myself: all of my writing is for her, to fulfill the dreams she never got to.

This is why I write. I want to both share the stories of my imagination and to make my grandmother proud.

Now, Who is L.A. Grabins?

Hi! My name is L.A. Grabins. Why L.A.? It’s the abbreviation of my first and middle name. When I published my first book, I wanted some catchy name that would be easily recognized and stayed in people’s memories. So, L.A. sounded cool and still stayed true to my actual name. Plus it gave me a tiny bit of anonymity… not much though because obviously my family and friends are some of my biggest supporters!

More about me: I’m a young writer from Madison Wisconsin, which is where I’ve lived for all of my life. Beyond writing, I enjoy reading, painting, drawing, playing the flute, tennis, and just relaxing. I’m also currently a student, so most of my time is spent on classes and studies as I am currently perusing a Bachelor’s of Science in Biomechanics. Just recently as well, I went to Italy, studying in Rome for a semester, so if you can’t tell, I’m a huge lover of travel! The places I’ve been to include Italy (obviously), Spain, France, Poland, Lithuania, Ireland, Austria, Scotland, England, and Ecuador (plus the Galapagos Islands!). Somehow, with all of that going on, I still find time to work a part-time job and write a whole bunch of projects!
